    Scholarships:

    • Universities offer a range of options for scholarships both for bachelor’s and master’s level international students, as The first academic year the scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee. In the following academic years, the scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee if a student earns required credits for the program.

    Post Study Work Visa:

    Part Time work/Student Jobs

    • International Students can also work for 30 hours per week (part-time) on average during the academic year and work full time with no restrictions during holidays.
    • The students are allowed to work part time but are restricted to do such jobs only that are related to their study course.
    • Typically the current minimum wage in the cleaning branch is €7.30 per hour. The average hourly wage amongst industrial worker is about €14 per hourStudents with Finnish language skills are entitled for higher wages as compared to the students having no skills.

    For Bachelor’s :

    • 12th with minimum 55%

    For Master’s :

    • Minimum 55% in bachelor’s degree + 2 years of work experience (for some courses)

    • SAT test (for Bachelor’s)

    Documents required for Finland Student Visa or Residence Permit

    ➢ Certificate of acceptance/attendance from your educational institution in Finland

    ➢ Colour copies of the passport page containing personal data and of all passport pages that contain notes

    ➢ Your passport must have a validity that exceeds the duration of the visa or residence permit you are applying for by at least 3 months

    ➢ Living Expenses of € 560 per month to be shown for entire duration of the program and it has to be shown in the student’s savings account only.

    • You should attach a bank statement to your application, showing that you have the necessary funds in your bank account. The bank statement must show the name of the account holder, the name of the bank, and the currency.
    • You must have the necessary funds in your own bank account that is in your personal use only.
    • If you are under the age of 18 or an exchange student, the bank account can be a joint bank account that you share with your guardian. The bank statement must include a statement of your right to access the bank account.
    • Sponsorship agreements provided by relatives, friends or employers are not acceptable. The funds must be in your own bank account.
    • If you have received the funds for instance from your parents or relatives (a sponsor), we may ask you to submit additional documents on the origin of the funds.
    • You can have a bank account in any country, as long as you can use it in Finland. You must be able to withdraw money from the account when you are in Finland.

    AMENDED LAW: Easing entry and retention of international students in Finland

    Under a new act, students and their family members arriving in Finland from abroad will obtain a residence permit for the entire duration of their studies. The law will also make it easier to apply for work after graduation. However, students will still be responsible for their livelihood throughout their studies.

    Main points in the amended law

    • Students will be granted a residence permit for the entire length of their studies.
    • Foreign students’ right to work during their studies will increase from the average of 25 hours to 30 hours a week.
    • The type of permit for students studying for a higher education degree will change from temporary (B) to continuous (A), which will make it easier to obtain a permanent residence permit. According to the legislative reform, the family members of the student will also receive a continuous (A) permit.
    • Students will still be required to provide proof of a secure means of subsistence, but only for one year. However, they will be responsible for their livelihood throughout their residency.
    • Tuition fees will continue to be charged of students arriving in Finland from third countries.
